I love, love, love this photo of George W. Bush and Bertie Ahern at the 2006 Shamrock ceremony at the White House. I even watched the video at the White House site to see why W. was making that face. I think he was going to make one of his hilarious quips but thought better of it.
NPR tries to get to the bottom of this Ceremony - Who started it? When? Where does the shamrock come from?
A better question might be: why does the U.S. government waste so much time each year pandering to such a small-potatoes nation? Does it really buy that many Irish-American votes?
