Internet: Band To Band
Great new web site that applies the "6 Degrees" theory to music - Band To Band. Blue Oyster Cult to Joy Division took 9 steps - the crucial link was Zak Starkey, Ringo's boy, who played in an Iron Maiden offshoot and with Johnny Marr. Wilco to Roxy Music took 15 steps, but I'm sure there's a shorter route via Johnny Marr again (he played on Bryan Ferry's "The Right Stuff", and with Billy Bragg, who has made two albums with Wilco). Oh, maybe I should have read the rules first. "Guest appearances and studio musicians do not qualify as band members." "Solo artists are not considered bands." I think I'll have to downgrade my evaluation of this website from "great" to "good". Their rules are nearly as contrived as Shell's.
